Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last of the weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cold nights. Not much is worse than turning in at night and realizing your furnace won’t start up. If you find yourself in this situation, here are some things you can check yourself before your call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters monthly. If you don’t, they can end up clogged, obstructing air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but confirm the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your heating equipment will still not kick on, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 352-414-4006 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
