When the Dallas and Fort Worth Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning locations (Calverley Service Experts, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning Plano/DFW, and Levy and Son) were getting ready to host a booth at the Walk MS events in Addison and Fort Worth, they wanted to offer something to the event participants.
“Service Experts felt an APCO Air Purifier was the perfect product to auction off since this spring Service Experts has been promoting saving the air, and it helps destroy germs and contaminants from your air that can exacerbate allergies and respiratory issues,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts.
Kim Speck won the Fresh-Aire UV APCO Air Purifier when she bid the highest at the Dallas Walk MS event. Kim first found out about the APCO many months before when she saw an article talking about the seriousness of indoor air quality.
“I didn’t pay much attention at the time because I didn’t realize its compatibility with practically any HVAC system, and assumed it was another one of those “luxuries” that was beyond my budget. When it came up at the Walk MS event, people were talking about the seriousness of good indoor air quality for people with MS and I immediately thought of my father.”
Kim’s father was in his 90s and had been living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for over 20 years. For the past four years he had been on oxygen constantly, 24/7/365.
“The allergens in his air irritated him even though I constantly bought the more expensive 3M Filtrate brand of air filters. They just weren’t helping. He frequently caught pneumonia despite the fact that he had only left his home over the past four years for doctor appointments.”
The pneumonia would constantly result in Kim’s father spending a minimum of two months in the hospital and rehabilitation center. Right before the Walk MS event in Addison, Kim’s father had spent three weeks in the hospital and a few days at the rehab facility rebounding from two strings of pneumonia. After seeing her father go through so much, Kim said she was going to “roll the dice” by bidding on the APCO, which had two great benefits: her dad would finally come home to “clean” air and all the money went to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kim was so excited when she found out she won and planned on getting the APCO installed in her father’s residence before he was discharged from the rehab facility. Sadly, just three days after the MS Walk, Kim’s father was taken home to hospice care and passed away peacefully just a few days later. The APCO arrived the week after he passed.
Kim decided to have the APCO installed in her own house because her husband suffers from allergies. A short time after it was put in, she was cooking onions and noted she couldn’t smell any odors once she was done. She’s looking forward to seeing long-term effects of her new APCO.
Everyone here at Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning sends their thoughts and prayers to Kim and her family.
